Langtry Manor was alive this weekend with the highlight of our 35th Anniversary celebrations. Guests who have become part of the family over the past three decades arrived on Friday afternoon to join in the festivities. After a leisurely afternoon of tea, cakes and scones in the lounge, guests scurried off to their rooms excitedly to transform themselves into their evening attire. Glamorous ladies in evening gowns and dazzling gents in dapper suits arrived for champagne with the whole family followed by a decadent four-course candlelit supper. Mrs Howard, the original lady of the manor, delivered an emotional account of her family’s story. From the moment they walked in 35 years ago and fell in love with the Manor at first sight, to the day-to-day running being taken over by her daughter Tara Howard, and its current success as a luxury boutique hotel with an Edwardian twist.
Some of those present for the weekend have been visiting the Manor since Miles and Tara were little children. On this occasion Mrs Howard’s grandson, Tara’s son Donny joined the party, delighting guests with his charming magic tricks.
On Saturday evening, guests gathered for a traditional six-course Edwardian banquet with an “old style music hall” theme, and huge feathers adorning the tables. Some of the diners dressed up in Edwardian costume which was the icing on the cake. Prizes to stay overnight were awarded for the best costumes – which went to Mrs Ord and Miss Jacobs who both went all out. Party spirits were high as the evening culminated with a good old fashioned sing-song and then guests retiring to bed with tired heads and full bellies. All were sad to go home this morning as our wonderful anniversary weekend came to a close. So, raise your glasses to the next 35!
